Pines

Pine snakes are found primarily in the Eastern United States and also in Mexico/Central America. Pines have 8 different species/subspecies and generally have one of the best dispositions among the Pituophis family.

Pine Snakes

Pine snakes are the most impressive amongst the Pituophis in my opinion. Their size alone makes them fun to work with in addition to the fact that the pines in general have a very chill disposition. I find that especially in hatchlings, the pines are always the calmest, whereas the bulls and gophers tend to have more attitude from the get-go.

As for the 8 different species/subspecies of pines...

These are the Pines found within the United States

Northern (P.m.melanoleucus) (this includes Kentucky pines as well)

Florida (P.m.mugitus) (AKA Southern pines)

Black (P.m.lodingi)

Louisiana (P. ruthveni)

These are the Pines found in Mexico-

Northern Mexican/Mexican (P.d.jani)

Durango Mountain (P.d.deppei)

And these are the Pines found in Central America-

Cincuate/Lined (P.l.lineaticollis)

Gibson/Guatemalan (P.l.gibsoni)

In general the Pines can get the biggest out of all the Pituophis. The bullsnakes can get heavier and just as long in some cases but typically the pines will get longer and bigger. My Deppei Jani are some of the biggest snakes I own! All of my pines are among the biggest of the Pituophis that I own. You can expect that most adults will reach lengths of 6-7 feet with the possibility of some getting bigger.
