HATCHING
Pipping and Slicing
Pipping
Pipping is when the babies start to hatch! It is always so exciting to see what the first noses will look like! Baby pits have an egg tooth that they use to slice open the egg once it is time to hatch. Then they like to stick their noses out and take a peak at the new world around them.
Slicing
Pipping and Slicing can be used interchangeably when talking about the clutch started to hatch. Once the first egg slices you will likely start to see other eggs with slices in them as well. I personally slice/cut the whole clutch once the first one slices on their own. This is something I have always done- it is a practice I got from my Mom. It is not necessary as most healthy babies will be able to slice and crawl out all on their own. I do like i said, always wait until they start hatching on their own before I slice the clutch. So just because it is day 60 of incubation- I still wait until they make the first move.
